We are leaving Omaha for, well, we don’t know where we are stopping just yet. Thanks to Dave and David and Chris, we are going to be taking a scenic route through Valentine, Nebraska and see where the wind blows us from there.
The drive along route 275 from Omaha to Valentine was absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking and very different from our other drives thus far. Lotta corn. Lotta tumbleweed. Unfortunately we got the tail end of a huge storm passing to the north, the winds were crazy. Had to drive a little slower than normal to not get blown off the road. A little surreal as we drove about 10 miles outside of Wayne, NE. If you recall, Wayne is where the huge tornado hit just a few weeks ago.
Here are some of our favorite photos:
Also, I am all for following authorities lead, etc., but not sure I wanna follow this lead car through the construction in the middle of Norfolk, NE. (click on image to enlarge and read the sign):
Valentine, population 2,820 is a small very western town.
Lots of cowboy hats, spurs and chaps. Known as the The Heart City, every business, sign, even the sidewalks are covered in hearts – red hearts. Unfortunately, this town has had it’s share of natural disasters in the last 10 years. It was home to a huge tornado in 2005 and an enormous fire in 2006. Thankfully the town seems to have recovered and those that live here are proud to call this place home.
There were very few sleeping opportunities in town, and still a bunch of energy in our systems, we decided to get back in the car and drive a few more hours into South Dakota.
